KAREN GERARD BRINGS 20 PLUS YEARS EXPERIENCE AND STRONG RESULTS
Karen Gerard, a licensed professional counselor (LPC), has worked as an educational consultant with college bound students for over 20 years. In addition, Karen has developed and implemented a high school career and college center, a workshop for college bound students and their parents and served as counseling clinic coordinator/liaison for the Education and Educational Psychology Department at Western Connecticut State University. Since 2001, Karen has volunteered as the College Counselor for the Ridgefield A Better Chance (RABC) Program. From 2005 to 2014, Karen served as the Chair of RABC’s College Admissions Committee and on the RABC Board of Directors. Karen has also worked as an elementary and middle school teacher and member of the Parents Council of Washington University in St. Louis.
Karen’s training in education and counseling enhances her ability to identify and focus on highlighting what makes each child unique and special and positively address special circumstances. Karen’s knowledge and understanding of the academic courses and extracurricular activities a college is seeking enables her to advise students on classes and activities that will make them most attractive to the college. Training in testing allows Karen to base her recommendations for SAT and ACT tutoring on each individual student’s ability and needs. Most importantly, Karen’s overall philosophy is to suggest a realistic range of schools reflecting each student’s goals, interests, talents and academic and athletic abilities, while meeting the individual needs of each student and family so their college search process will be a positive one.
